ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The integration of Environmental Education and STEM is a topic of growing interest to Environmental Educators.  In this project students design, test, and build machines that will make the Rappahannock River a cleaner and healthier stream.  Using information provided by watershed programs from Friends of the Rappahannock educators and guided by a Design Brief, teams of fourth grade students will build and test machines for cleaning the river.  Emphasis will be placed on the use of alternative energy to power these machines and their work will be documented through the use of science journals that build literacy skills.
